CMCL Cup Rules 2009

1.      The Camberley Midweek Cricket League (CMCL) Cup is open to all teams in the CMCL.  Any team not wishing to participate in the Cup competition need not do so but must notify the Committee of its decision.

2.      The format of the Cup Competition will be decided on an annual basis according to the number of teams in the league.  In past years a number of formats have been used including straight-knock-out, two round-robin groups with the group winners going forward to the final, and a single-round robin group with the top two sides going forward to the final.

3.      In determining the best format for any season, the main criteria will be to allow the teams to play the maximum practical number of matches in both cup and league, whilst being able to play a cup final ideally in the third week of July and with a reserve date the following week.  The decision as to the most appropriate format in any year will ultimately lie with the fixture secretary.

4.       Matches will be played at Watchetts Playing Fields and will start promptly at 6 p.m.  Dates for Cup games may not be changed and teams which cannot meet the defined date will forfeit the match.

5.      Each team shall comprise of 10 players

6.      Each match shall consist of one innings per side and each innings shall consist of fifteen, eight ball overs.

7.      One player may bowl three overs, other bowlers may not bowl more than two overs

8.      Each team shall nominate 5 pairs of batsmen and each pair shall bat for 3 overs per pair.   In the event of a wicket falling, the batsman will remain at the crease, but 6 runs will be deducted from his total.  After the allotted 3 overs are completed, the batsmen shall retire, and the next pair shall come in.

9.      If a wicket falls, the batting pair have the option to change ends for the next delivery.

10.  In the event of a team being unable to field 10 players, than the following will apply: If there are an odd number of players e.g. 9, the single player will bat with a runner for 12 balls. If there are even numbers eg. 8, the total number of overs will be adjusted accordingly e.g 4 pairs x 3 overs = 12 overs

11.  In the event of a tie after fifteen overs the side which lost the least number of wickets will be declared the winner.  If a winner is still not decided then the side batting second will be declared the winner.

12.  If, for any reason, a match is started but not completed in an evening then the whole match must be played again at the earliest opportunity.  Any dispute over when the match should be played should be referred to the Committee.

13.  Postponements due to bad weather will be subject to the same conditions as league matches but the re-arranged match must go ahead as soon as possible after the postponed date.

14.  In the event that the cup competition features a group stage (whether this be two groups or a single round-robin group) and there is a tie on points that needs to be resolved, the following criteria shall be applied:

·        the first criterion will be the result of the cup game in which the two teams had played one another.

·        if this first criteria does not produce a clear result a second criteria shall be applied, calculated on runs scored in all cup matches divided by wickets lost in all cup matches.

15.  Both captains are responsible for a) agreeing and b) reporting to the fixture secretary within 5 working days the results of each match.  In the event that only one side has reported the result within that period, then that shall be deemed to be the result.  In the event of a discrepancy between the reported results then the fixture secretary shall request the captains to jointly agree and re-confirm the result of the match within a further five working days.

16.  ‘Home’ team captains are responsible for the provision of a new match ball.
